Fan-favorite X-Men character Kitty Pryde may be getting her own solo film featuring the director of the critically acclaimed, R-rated superhero venture, Deadpool.
Sources told Collider Tim Miller is currently working on the film for Fox, but Collider stresses that with a possible Disney buyout of Fox looming, the film’s fate may change.
Although the details of the project may change, and the film may be scrapped altogether depending on the details of the merger, Fox is continuing business as usual, as the deal could take 12-18 months to process. In addition to Pryde herself, Colossus, who also featured prominently in Deadpool, is set to star in the film as Kitty’s love interest.
This wouldn’t be Kitty Pryde’s first on-screen appearance. Both X-Men and X2 featured cameos by the character, but Ellen Page portrayed a more integral Kitty in X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past. There is currently no word on if Page will reprise the role.
Kitty’s mutant power allows her to phase through solid objects, and she has risen to lead the X-Men in the comics, where she is often accompanied by her pet dragon, Lockheed.
While Pryde has long been a popular member of the X-Men team, if the film is made, it would be one of only a few times X-Men team members received solo films, others being the critically lauded Logan, and the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
