Marvel Comics has revealed the name of their upcoming event, Infinity Wars, along with the creative team: writer Gerry Duggan, artist Mike Deodato Jr., and colorist Frank Martin. Duggan has been building up to a large-scale Infinity Stone story in his now-ended Guardians of the Galaxy comic and in the Infinity Countdown mini-series, and now we know that it will lead to Infinity Wars.
The cover reveals the main players in the event: Adam Warlock, Doctor Strange, Gamora, Captain Marvel, Peter Quill, Loki and Thanos. There also appears to be a hooded character with a mask in the shape of the “infinity” symbol.
The event will start in July’s Infinity Wars: Prime #1, described by Marvel as follows: “In INFINITY WARS: PRIME #1, the heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe reap what they sow as their frantic search for the Infinity Stones leads to cosmic madness like never before. The simmering events of recent months spiral into something much, much bigger in this colossal story.”
Marvel’s announcement also included the message that more will be revealed at C2E2, which starts on April 6.
The title is of course banking off of the hype for Marvel Avengers: Infinity War, which releases on April 27.
