As Expected, VENOM Is Officially NOT Set In The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Despite rumours of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker making an appearance in Venom, a new report confirms what we all expected: the Sony Pictures movie won’t have any ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe…

Entertainment Weekly recently put up a post on Venom, a movie which will be receiving the spotlight at Comic-Con next weekend. In that article, director Ruben Fleischer and star Tom Hardy shed some light on their plans for the symbiote but there was no mention of Spider-Man, a character who is essential to the world of Eddie Brock (his origin story will be unrecognisable without the wall-crawler).

Well, we can forget about any nods to the world of Peter Parker or that rumoured cameo appearance from Tom Holland because the site has seemingly provided confirmation about Venom‘s MCU ties.

“Venom is the first of Sony’s new films based on characters from the Spider-Man comics, although it’s a separate world from last year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. (It’s also not part of the deal between Sony and Disney that allows Tom Holland’s Spidey into the Marvel Cinematic Universe).”

This is no great surprise and was to be expected but it’s still hard not to be a little disappointed.

With any luck, Comic-Con will shed some light on plans for Venom and how Sony intends to make his origin story different now that Spider-Man isn’t going to be part of that. What do you guys think?
