Marvel’s Star Wars comics have covered a wide swath of the Star Wars timeline, ranging from the Prequels to the Original Trilogy to the new sequels. But for the first time, they’ll be publishing a comic that attempts to tackle all three of these time periods at once.
As revealed at the Lucasfilm Publishing panel at Comic-Con today, Marvel is developing a new maxi-series project that comprises three books – Star Wars: Age of Republic, Star Wars: Age of Rebellion and Star Wars: Age of Resistance. This project will span 30 issues in total, with each issue spotlighting one hero or villain from a particular era
Unfortunately, there are few other details about these new books at the moment or how they’re meant to connect together. We do know that Jody Houser will be writing Age of Republic, Greg Pak will be writing Age of Rebellion and Tom Taylor will be writing Age of Resistance. The cover to Age of Republic #1 also makes it clear that Darth Maul will be a focus of that issue.
Another big announcement at the panel involved the debut of Star Wars: Tales From Darth Vader’s Castle. This all-ages horror series from IDW Publishing is written by Cavan Scott and drawn by Derek Charm, with covers by Francesco Francavilla. The book will run for five issues and features a variety of horror tales set in the Star Wars universe. The book’s framing device involves a group of travelers stranded on Mustafar near Vader’s ominous castle.
The current Star Wars: Darth Vader series was also discussed at the panel. Issues #19 through #23 will feature a new story exploring the origin of Vader’s castle and explaining why the Dark Lord of the Sith calls it home in the first place.
Additionally, two new Star Wars novels were revealed at the panel. Claudia Gray is writing Star Wars: Master and Apprentice, which focuses on the relationship between Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi. That book is scheduled for release on February 19, 2019.
E.K Johnston will write Star Wars: Queen’s Shadow, which is set after the events of Episode I and explores Amidala’s transition from being Queen of Naboo to Senator. This book will be released in March 2019.
